On Thursday, April 23rd, over 400 guests attended the 16th annual Leacock Debate at The Carlu. The historic Toronto event venue played host to a wonderful evening of wit and humour in an effort to raised funds for the Leacock Foundation's signature programs such as summer camp opportunities for underserved Toronto youth.
Guests enjoyed cocktails in the West Foyer before taking their seats in the Concert Hall. After savouring an English roast dinner featuring beef tenderloin and Yorkshire pudding, the debaters took the stage.
Globe & Mail columnist Tabatha Southey and Conrad Black debated lawyer William McDowell and former Supreme Court Justice Ian Binnie on this resolution: “Be it resolved that the cream always rises to the top.”
As always, it was a successful event, full of amusing banter and delicious cuisine. We're already looking forward to next year's debate!
